What Is the Best Jasmine Rice? 7 Things to Look For Before You Buy

Written by the Four Elephants Team- Published on Sept 25, 2026

"What is the best jasmine rice?"

It's a simple question with a more interesting answer than just naming a brand.

Different shoppers prioritize different things. Some want authentic Thai rice. Others prioritize organic certification, package size, aroma, or value.

Here are seven things worth checking before putting a bag in your cart.

1. Country of Origin

Start with the label.

If you're specifically looking for Thai jasmine rice, confirm that the rice actually comes from Thailand.

Four Elephants Premium Jasmine Rice is Thai Hom Mali Jasmine Rice from Thailand.

2. Rice Variety

"Rice" covers an enormous range of grains.

Even "jasmine rice" can encompass different products, so look for more specific information about the variety.

Thai Hom Mali is an important term to recognize when shopping for authentic Thai jasmine rice.

3. Natural Aroma

Jasmine rice is known for its distinctive natural fragrance.

That aroma is part of what separates jasmine rice from many ordinary long-grain varieties.

The experience should begin as the rice cooks and continue when it reaches the table.

4. Grain and Texture

Quality jasmine rice should deliver more than aroma.

Look for the long grains and fluffy texture associated with jasmine rice when it is properly prepared.

Remember that cooking technique plays a major role. The right rice-to-water ratio can be the difference between beautifully prepared jasmine rice and a disappointing pot.

5. Packaging

How your rice is packaged is easy to overlook.

Four Elephants Jasmine Rice is vacuum packed, which is why an unopened bag may feel firm or compressed.

That is normal.

The grains loosen once the vacuum packaging is opened.

6. Certifications

Depending on your household, certifications may influence your decision.

Four Elephants Premium Jasmine Rice is Non-GMO, and Four Elephants also offers an Organic Jasmine Rice option.

Check each individual product when shopping so you know exactly which certifications apply.

7. Package Size

Think about how frequently you actually prepare rice.

New to Four Elephants?

Start with a 2 lb or 5 lb bag.

Cook jasmine rice regularly?

A 25 lb bag may make more sense.

Prefer an organic option?

Consider the 20 lb Organic Jasmine Rice.

Choosing the right quantity helps you match your purchase to your household rather than simply buying the largest or smallest package available.

So, Which Is the Best Jasmine Rice?

There isn't one universal answer for every shopper.

Instead, look for jasmine rice that meets your priorities for origin, variety, fragrance, texture, packaging, certifications, size, and value.

For shoppers seeking authentic Thai Hom Mali Jasmine Rice, Four Elephants offers naturally fragrant rice with long, fluffy grains in multiple sizes.

Try it, cook it properly, and decide based on what ends up on your plate.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"This is the best jasmine rice, hands down. The smell in my rice cooker is amazing… fragrant, slightly sticky and so delicious! If you want your rice stickier, add 1/4 cup more water… always cooks perfectly, whether making 1, 2, or 4 cups❤️Might be a tad more pricey, but you get what you pay for… went to Phuket this past January, this is the one rice that tastes like vacation🥰"

5 Tips for Better Jasmine Rice Every Time

1. Measure consistently

Use the same measuring cup and rice-to-water ratio each time. Consistency is the foundation of repeatable results.

2. Don't over-rinse

A gentle rinse is enough. You don't need to wash the rice aggressively.

3. Keep the lid closed

Steam is part of the cooking process. Opening the lid repeatedly can interfere with the cooking temperature and moisture balance.

4. Keep the heat low

Once the rice reaches a boil, gentle cooking is key. High heat can cause water to evaporate too quickly or the bottom of the rice to cook unevenly.

5. Let it rest

Those extra minutes after cooking make a difference. Give the rice time to finish steaming before fluffing.

From First Pot to Perfect Technique

Cooking Jasmine Rice doesn't need to be complicated.

For beginners, the process is simple: measure, rinse, add water, boil, cover, cook, rest, and fluff.

For experienced cooks and chefs, consistency becomes the real goal. Once you understand how your rice, cookware, heat, and water work together, you can fine-tune the process to achieve the texture you prefer.

The best technique is the one you can repeat.

Very Good Jasmine Rice Purchased Multiple Times

Very good Jasmine rice, the second best I have eaten. The best to me is 3 Elephants, but very had to find. People have to understand, this rice comes from Southeast Asia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, maybe other countries. It is grown is little villages by hand mostly, no company farms that I have seen. Be happy you sometimes find a bug in your rice, that means no nasty chemicals (formaldehyde) or worse. You gently wash the rice 3 times before cooking for a reason, dirt, bugs, litter, ect is mixed in. The price is very fair, the Chinese Gov has been buying up rice crops all over Asia the last year or so. Delivery is great! This is a top quality product!

 Excellent!!!

Excellent flavor and taste. Just follow the directions. The directions did not say to rinse until the water runs clear, so I didn't. Turned out great! No problems.

Frequently asked questions

What is the water-to-rice ratio for Jasmine Rice?

A good starting point for Four Elephants Jasmine Rice is 1¼ cups of water for every 1 cup of rice. Your ideal ratio may vary slightly depending on your cookware, stove, and preferred texture.

Do I need to rinse Jasmine Rice before cooking?

We recommend gently rinsing Jasmine Rice before cooking. This helps remove excess surface starch and can result in a cleaner, more distinct texture.

Is it easy to cook?

Yes! Whether you're using a rice cooker or stovetop, our rice cooks up perfectly fluffy every time. Just rinse, add water, and let it do its thing. Cooking instructions are included right on the bag.

Does it have a fragrance?

Absolutely. Our rice is naturally aromatic—it fills your kitchen with a warm, nutty scent that’s unmistakably authentic. That’s one of the reasons so many customers are switching to Four Elephants.

What makes Four Elephants different from other rice brands?

We source our Jasmine Rice directly from Thailand’s best farms—never blended, never compromised. Our 100% Thai Hom Mali Jasmine Rice is certified for its authenticity, fragrance, and quality. The result: soft, fluffy grains with the signature aroma people love.

How long does Jasmine Rice take to cook?

After bringing the rice and water to a boil, reduce the heat, cover, and cook for approximately 15 minutes. Then turn off the heat and allow the rice to rest, covered, for approximately 10 minutes.

Why should I let Jasmine Rice rest after cooking?

Resting allows the remaining steam to distribute through the rice and helps the grains finish cooking and settle into their final texture.
